Frequently Asked Questions

Practical information about halal status, origin labels, packaging, frozen delivery, coverage, thawing and ordering. Food-safety answers follow current Government of Canada guidance.

Need a quick answer? Meat 4 U is a delivery-only service. Approved boxes include cold-chain delivery to eligible postal codes. Products are halal, while Ontario origin is shown separately only on verified LOCAL items.

Products and sourcing

Is all Meat 4 U meat halal?

Yes. Meat 4 U Online lists its complete meat and poultry selection as halal. Halal status and geographic origin are separate claims: an item can be halal without being raised in Ontario.

Is every product local or from Ontario?

No. Only products whose Ontario origin has been verified display the LOCAL badge. A product without that badge should not be assumed to be local. This avoids applying a general local claim to the entire catalogue.

Are pack sizes and prices clear before ordering?

Product pages show the applicable package format and price information available for that item. Read the individual listing rather than assuming every product is sold by the pound. A product marked pending cannot be treated as a confirmed selection.

Are marinated products available?

Marinated items are identified in the Marinated category and on their individual product pages. Plain or unseasoned products are described separately; for example, Chinese BBQ Lamb is intended as an unseasoned cut rather than a ready-marinated item.

Can I request a custom cut?

Preparation options depend on the product. Where offered, the listing identifies the cut and pack size. Add relevant preparation notes during ordering and contact Meat 4 U before placing the order when a specialized cut is essential. A request is not confirmed until accepted.

Delivery and cold chain

Is delivery free?

Delivery is included for approved boxes delivered to eligible postal codes, with no hidden delivery fee. The address must still pass the postal-code checker before an order can proceed.

Where does Meat 4 U deliver?

Service is offered to eligible postal codes in Toronto and participating GTA communities. City names on the delivery page are guidance, not a guarantee for every address. The complete postal code is the final coverage check.

Is pickup available?

No. Meat 4 U Online is currently a delivery-only service. Use the delivery page to confirm address eligibility and available dates.

Does the meat arrive fresh or frozen?

Meat is purchased fresh, butcher-prepared, vacuum-sealed, promptly frozen and transported through the cold chain. It arrives frozen so it can be placed into a freezer or safely thawed in the refrigerator. Someone should receive and store the order promptly.

Can I choose an exact delivery time?

No exact arrival time is guaranteed. The delivery page displays the available day and service window. Leave access instructions where needed and arrange for prompt freezer or refrigerator storage.

Safe thawing and storage

How should I thaw frozen meat?

The preferred method is in the refrigerator, inside a leak-proof container. Faster safe methods include cold-water thawing in a sealed package or microwave thawing when the meat will be cooked immediately. Do not thaw raw meat on the counter or in hot water.

Can thawed meat be refrozen?

Meat thawed safely in the refrigerator may generally be refrozen if it remained cold and is within its safe storage time, although quality may decline. Meat thawed in cold water or a microwave should be cooked before refreezing. If you do not know how long it was warm, do not refreeze or serve it.

Should I wash raw meat or chicken?

No. Rinsing can spread bacteria through droplets around the sink. Keep raw juices away from ready-to-eat food, wash hands and surfaces, and cook to the safe internal temperature. Read our complete handling guide.

How do I know when meat is safely cooked?

Use a clean digital food thermometer in the thickest part, away from bone. Colour alone is not a reliable safety test. Safe temperatures differ by product and preparation, so follow the current Health Canada chart linked below.

Boxes, subscriptions and help

Do I have to subscribe?

No. One-time ordering is available. Any repeat-order option is optional, and the box page shows the applicable timing and reward rules before selection.

Which box should I choose?

Choose by household size, freezer space and how often you cook. Review the current Small, Medium and Large box capacity on the box page. Do not select a larger box without a safe storage plan.

Where can I learn how to choose and cook a cut?

Visit the Meat Guides for detailed comparisons, storage guidance and cooking decisions. Each guide links to the relevant official Canadian source where a food-safety claim is made.
